Christmas concert and steak, English version (obviously)

Publicerad 2013-12-11 17:11:11 i Allmänt,

In English! I dedicate this update to my friend Stacey Sommer, hello Stacey!

And of course, hello everyone else.

I’m in Houston for a month with my Norwegian boyfriend who is here working. I’m done with school and while waiting for next semester and an internship I decided to join him in here. So now, a week beofre going home, I'm giving you a first update in English. Enjoy!

Last week we randomly ended up going to a Christmas concert with the Latin Philharmonics. We were in the car after having some sushi for dinner and didn’t feel like going home. So what to do? Well, we drove to the theater district in Downtown to see if anything was going on. We realized a lot of cars were all driving down the same garage so we decided to follow them to see where they were going. We parked our car and after following some random people we realized everyone was going to a Latin Christmas concert. Why not? We bought some cheap last minute tickets for the same price as a full gas tank (40USD, VERY cheap for us Swedes) and enjoyed a night with an orchestra and some famous Latinos singing. People were very happy singing and dancing, very different from our Swedish Philharmonic concerts where everyone just sits with discrete smiles on their faces.

Friday night we went to a Christmas tree lightning. Nothing advanced, just a giant tree that was going to be lit. But since we don't have such events in Sweden/Norway we thought it could be fun. It was us, and Houston's many children with parents. Unfortunatley, due to the (according to Swedish TV) “very unusual winter storms with arctic cold that has hit Arkansas and Texas giving temperatures far below average” it was way to cold for us, so the Christmas tree lightning became a very short activity. We didn’t even see when the tree was lit.

The big day this weekend was Saturday. We had decided to go to the Houston Museum of natural Science to see their oil exhibition. Kristian became like a child on Christmas Eve when he got the chance to take part of the very interactive exhibition. Two hours of looking, pressing of buttons and listening to everything that has to do with oil drilling was heaven for him (he recently started to work in the oil business). After that we walked through a part showing us the evolution with some dinosaur skeletons, pretty cool. I here feel that I should tell you one of my favorite jokes:

-       Do you know why all the mammoths died?

-       Because there were no dadoths!

That night we had an amazing dinner at a very nice steakhouse, delicious! The plan was to go out for some partying but that didn’t happen. We still haven’t figured out where to go (or drive, in Norway where we live we walk to the clubs). After some unsuccessful attempts we decided to go home and just watch an episode of Criminal Minds. Sunday was spent doing some shopping at one of Houston’s many outlets. Great weekend.

Last night was a big night; we went to a concert with Beyoncé! More about that in the next update, ciao!
